Papatowai Forest Heritage Trust protects vulnerable native habitat in The Catlins and makes it accessible to the public.
Papatowai, Otago
The Papatowai Forest Trust has created the Findlater Reserve by purchasing the land behind the beautiful rata trees that line the Tahakopa Estuary at Papatowai in The Catlins.
The Trust needs to raise $50,000 to repay the remaining portion of the loan required to make the purchase. The land was purchased from the Findlater Family in May 2022.
Established in 1996 "to promote and encourage the protection and preservation of the indigenous flora and fauna of the Catlins area".
To make the purchase, a loan was taken out. More contributions are needed to complete the repayment. The Trust also needs money to undertake weed and pest control, native planting, tracking and interpretation.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our conservation project here at Papatowai in The Catlins. Thanks to you we have reached our initial goal of paying for the land behind the beautiful rata trees that line the shore here. Hving paid this our bank balance is $80 so we would welcome any extra that we need to pay the first year's rates - after that we will not have to pay rates because the reserve will be covenanted with the Queen Elizabeth II Trust and our Council waives rates on such land.
So good to get your donation. We are needing to buy new traps. The ones we have are doing quite a good job, but are not as efficient as new ones. Thank you
Thank you Jenny, your contribution will help with our restoration work
