Preserving Southland NZ history for future generations through videos, stories and photos.

Invercargill, Southland

Southland’s Past needs your help to continue in bringing Southland’s history not just to Southlander’s and New Zealander’s, but the world.

I spend hundreds of hours digitising my old videos and films from working in television for the local station and networks for over 28 years and have thousands of hours of video from SVHS/VHS tapes and DVD’s to work through. Over that time of running the Southland's Past face book page, we have managed to gain some attention through social media with having massed over 36k followers on SP FB page to date since I started in 2016.

What SP needs is more storage space for new hard drives, new DV capturing hardware and software, cloud storage space subscriptions, and a little help in labour costs to digitise the video and films. Any contribution will advance toward growing this positive site to the next level, a simple video can take me hours as needs to go through three stage process.

Facebook is pushing SP for a subscription service for monetisation purposes, hence why I'm trying here for a bit of assistance instead of that avenue. So if you love what we do and want to see more, please help out to continue the legacy of Southland's history staying alive for future generations. SP loves receiving messages about peoples loved one who have passed and bringing the memories back to those Southlanders.

We are also looking for sponsors to come on board to receive recognition to your business, so if you want to be part of this please contact us.

Use of funds

New hardware and software, cloud subscriptions, repairs to old SVHS/VHS machines, hard drive space. Plus some old equipment we use needs fixed and sent to Christchurch for repairs.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
