Please help my cat Igor who severely broke his left-hind leg and now requires an amputation.
Dunedin, Otago
On Saturday 17 May, my cat Igor returned home in pain and after taking him for X-Rays turned out to be a complex broken left-hind leg. The break is through his tib and fib, just above the ankle meaning he cannot receive surgery in Dunedin and would have to go to a specialist. Instead, I am opting for him to have his leg amputated, a more affordable option with a much easier rehabilitation. The vets say he should be a happy, healthy three-legged cat who will be able to get up to much the same as he used to!
Unfortunately vet bills are high and his operation is not something I can comfortably afford, especially as I am moving overseas in two months for a fixed term job. His operation is projected to be anywhere from $2330 - $3030. I am hoping to raise between $1000 - $1300 (to cover the uncertain range) to help me afford his amputation.
I have been overwhelmed for the support so far from friends and fellow cat owners. He is just a young boy, literally days shy of 1.5 years. For amputation to be an option is something I'm so grateful, and I am so thankful for everyone helping Igor continue to be the silly, curious and kind wee guy he has been.

Successful amputation! 27 May 2025
Kia ora koutou and thank you all so so much for your generous support through this. I have been so overwhelmed and grateful for how many people gave to help Igor (and me) through this time.
Things moved fast and I chose that afternoon to go book Igor's amputation at the vet which they were able provide quickly on Tuesday, the next day. As many of you know, it went well! It is now a week on and he is going back to his old self, getting used to using three legs to climb and jump, to places he shouldn't be going yet, and is mostly only upset that he can't go outside yet.
His operation was entirely covered by your donations and there is excess. There is still one more follow-up appointment as well as monitoring him which I will put this towards. I will update again once I have an idea of how much is leftover.
Not a great picture of Igor, nor our kitchen, but does show his new leg set up! Thank you all again ~ Jamiema
Thanks for your donation Jesse! Can confirm he has gotten many treats and he is recovering really well. Thanks for your support 🫶
