A 36-year-old father battling heart failure and chronic illness, trying to protect his children’s future while he still can.
Whangaparaoa, Auckland
I should be working and building a future for my family. Instead, I’m living with heart failure (LVHFrEF, EF 35–40%), meaning the main pumping part of my heart isn’t working as well as it should, along with chronic pain in both arms from medial epicondylitis and tennis elbow, and a history of epilepsy.
Simple things like lifting, carrying, or even getting through a normal day can be painful or exhausting. Some days are manageable, others aren’t, which makes consistent work extremely difficult.
What weighs on me most is being a father through all of this. My children rely on me, and I do everything I can to stay present and give them stability.
Before this, I fought through addiction and worked hard to build a better life, which makes this even harder to face.
My condition carries serious risks and is expected to worsen over time. Because of that, I want to do what I can now to protect my children and give them some financial security.
Funds will go towards living expenses, doctor and specialist visits, medications, and any unfunded medical costs. They will also help support my children’s daily needs, and cover funeral costs so my family isn’t left with that burden.
Any support or sharing means a lot. Thank you for reading.
