Financial support for baby Rosaly suffering from a severe heart issue at Starship, with the family torn apart between Motueka and Auckland
Nelson / Tasman
Croydon and Doreen are currently waking up in a nightmare, every day. Their beautiful daughter Rosaly was diagnosed with a severe heart condition in pregnancy and doctors were not hopeful from the beginning. Yet, Rosaly has fought her way into life, and was born at Starship Hospital at the 10th of March and again, fought all odds. Croydon works in Motueka, where the family that now shares 5 children, lives. Doreen is in Auckland with Rosaly, and their 3 year old son Harvey.
Rosaly has gone through several open heart surgeries, while the parents had to wait aweful hours to hear if she has survived. She has, and she has fought her way all the way up to the ward which is amazing, and overwhelming, and unbelievably amazing.
On the other hand, being on the ward is another nightmare - because now Doreen is responsible 24/7 for Rosaly and Harvey, being in Auckland on her own with no friends or family, as Croydon is in Motueka supporting the older children and work, to provide the family's income.
Doreen, Harvey (3) and Rosaly share a room at Starship, but as you appreciate a mother needs a shower, and a kitchen, and a washing machine, and the opportunity to take a break. As all parents feel like they're 24/7 on shift after a baby was born, Doreen literally is. She can't even take a shower without having to supervise Harvey and Rosaly or 'leaving them' uncared for, which is a horrible feeling even if you just take a few minutes. She cannot go to a supermarket, or anywhere else. Items need to be ordered.
It is currently unknown how long Rosaly will have to stay at Starship and unfortunately, her condition has become worrying and Harvey is now down with a stomach bug.
I want to call out to all mothers, just imagine for one moment, this was you.
Croydon works full time at a local building company, and is at breaking point between 'I should be with them' and 'I need to work', 'I have other children to care for' and I don't think many people can imagine what he is going through at home.
I want to call out to all fathers, just imagine for one moment, this was you.
With all the amazing support of Starship Hospital and Ronald McDonald house, what Doreen and Croydon now need is fast financial help. There is financial and emotional support from his clients, and friends help with the property when he's away, and there are a lot of gestures of support all over the place. Usually, I would set up a meal train for families with new babies, but she's in Auckland, so money will provide for food deliveries and enable her to order the daily items of life, that suddenly become unreachable. Parts of the travel will be paid for through the hospital/Ronald McDonald for support of Doreen but again, that does not cover what's needed.
I am hoping to raise $50,000 in a very short time frame to take one massive burden of their shoulders, and that is money. It will be used for food, for childcare for Harvey, and childcare / after hour care for the other dependent children. It will be used for rental cars in Auckland, for food deliveries to the hospital, for daily needs of life. It will be used to bring Harvey home and have extra care for him and it will be used for flights. It will be used to pay outstanding bills that start to pile up and keep the family's account out of debts that are starting to pile up. It will be used to keep the family's mental health for additional support and counseling.
Please, support this beautiful baby girl and her beautiful family who are struggling so badly due to no fault of their own.
My husband and I are Croydons clients. We have and will keep supporting them financially and with whatever else is possible but we need the support of the community to get them what is required.
Food deliveries, daily items, financial support for mental struggles, childcare of dependent children, travel, fuel, bills, and everything else necessary to make this bearable.
Welcome home Rosaly 6 August 2021
Everyone,
Thank you so much, for all your donations, wishes, thoughts and positive energy.
After endless weeks, days and hours Rosaly and her Mum were able to be transported to Nelson Hospital a few days ago, where they arrived safely. Rosaly was stable enough to then come home - which is where the family is now reunited and able to catch up on everything they have missed over the last months.
Welcome home, you little fighter, we're excited and over the moon to have you home!
