MS... What MS? Imogen's New Beginning!

Let's pull together and see how much we can raise to help Imogen in her battle against MS (Multiple Sclerosis)!

Wellington

My amazing Mum (also Mum to 2 other little ratbags) is currently in the process of taking a giant leap forward in her battle against Multiple Sclerosis. On the 2nd of July 2019 she will be travelling to Russia to receive treatment which will halt the progression of this terrible disease.

When writing this, I struggled to sum up the qualities of my Mum in a few words, she is such an amazing person in so many ways. Her unconditional love for her family & friends, selflessness and strength are just a few things which make her an inspiration to the people around her.

Sadly, Imogen was diagnosed with RRMS (Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis) in 2004 at the age of 27. MS is a disease where the immune system eats away at the protective covering of nerves resulting is a wide range of symptoms. These include numbness, pins & needles throughout the body, fatigue and impaired coordination. Over time these symptoms have worsened and now she has extreme difficulty walking. I have watched her slowly but surely lose all confidence going out in public due to the muscle spasticity in her legs.

But all is not lost! Through extensive research and discussion with friends who have received the treatment, she has plucked up the courage to travel to Russia for a Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation. This treatment resets your immune system and stops the progression of MS, in some cases even reversing the damage. This is a 4-5 week treatment where your stem cells are harvested, treated and frozen. Imogen will go through an intensive 4 days of chemotherapy to destroy her immune system. After that her stem cells are put back into her body to stimulate the growth of a new immune system, completely free from the disease.

The total cost of the treatment is $75,000 NZD which I think we can all agree is an insane amount of dosh! Although it is unlikely to raise such a number, any little contribution would be such a help and truly appreciated.

There will be a Facebook page link here in the next few days where you can follow along with Imogen and her inspirational journey! GO MUM!!! We love you xox.

I am Imogen's son, helping raise funds for her treatment.

Use of funds

The contributions made will be used for the Treatment in Russia and Airfares. We have set the target to cover half the cost of the treatment, if we exceeded this target any extra would further contribute towards the total price.

Funds will be paid to my Grandmother Annabel Rayner, who is Imogen's Mother.
