Hi everyone Inca's Mum here, well we got her final results and we have the all clear in her jaw!! Our Family is over the moon!!

It has been a long and tough road and at times we were a bit worried about everything Inca was going through, but without this I don't know if she would be here with us today, and she is happy, back to her bossy self and enjoying life with her sister.

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone for the love and support, it has meant so much to us. There are a lot of special people out there who have helped us get here and we will be forever grateful, no words could really explain just how thankful we are.

We would also like to make a special thank you to the amazing Vet team at Massey and Pet Vets Silverstream for taking such amazing care of our girl and treating her like their own!

Hi everyone, apologies for the lack of updates but it has been a full on and stressful few months for me and my family.

A few weeks ago my little sister Xing suddenly became extremely unwell and was rushed to the emergency Vets. She then spent the week at the Vets on IV fluids for Haemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE). Once home she then got Cellulitis in both her legs were the cannulas for the IV fluids was. We are so very lucky that she is a fighter like me and not to loose her.

It has been a long road to recovery as both Xing and I have continued to have very upset tummy's for the past few weeks and have been on antibiotics. We are both now slowly starting to come right with a lot of love and care from our Mummy and Daddy as well as our wonderful Vets.

Tomorrow is also a big day for me and my family as it is my first scans to check if the cancer has spread to the other side of my jaw, so please keep your paws crossed for me and my family as we are praying for the best.

Dad had a call from my surgeon Andrew at Massey on Thursday and unfortunately it was not the news we were hoping for. After the CT scans we had been told there was 3 possible results with one of them being a benign type of tumour and that the surgery would be 100% curative. Even though it was a slight chance, we had of course clung on to the hope and been praying for this as our results, but it has been confirmed as Fibrosarcoma cancer.

After the surgery we were told that it looked like the tumour was close to the other half of my bottom jaw, but they were hoping to still have enough clear margins, unfortunately we didn't get that. Andrew advised that during surgery he cauterized the area so in the case that they were cancerous cells that they would be damaged and killed off. The plan from here now is that I am booked in for dental x-rays on the 14th of June to check and see if there is any signs of the cancer. If this is clear then we will have another one done in 2 months time, and if still clear they are pretty confident we got it all!

However if there are any signs of the cancer, I will then need another surgery to take the first few teeth at the front of the other half of my jaw, in the aim to get the clear margins we need.

So we are back to a bit of waiting again, but in the meantime Dad and Mum will be watching me closely for any warning signs, and with the bulk of the cancer removed as well as my damaged jaw I am a lot more comfortable. I know Dad and Mum were devastated by the news, but are trying to stay positive and that we get some good results in June.

Hi everyone it has been a full on few days but I am happy to be home. It is taking a bit to adjust to everything but Mum and Dad are so proud of how well I am doing, and how good my little sister Xing is being as well.

I am licking a lot, a bit unsure at times what to do with my tongue and I really do not like all the dribbling, so I am always trying to clean it up. Dad and Mum say not to worry though.

I am meant to be wearing a cone 24/7 but when Dad and Mum have put it on me, it has stressed me out to much so for now they are watching me instead. So far I have been good at not trying to scratch at my face and stiches. Mum and Dad are taking turns sleeping with me too.

I am drinking and eating really well. I also had my post surgery check up today and everything is looking good and I am booked in to get my stiches out next week.

Thank you so much to everyone for all the love and support xxx

  • Progress update

      22 April 2022

Inca has had her surgery and all went well, she is now in ICU recovering. The wonderful Sarah and Vicky at Massey have kept us updated on her progress and we know that she is being well looked after.

We were advised that the tumour was getting close to the other half of her jaw so are so incredibly grateful that she has managed to have the surgery so quickly.

We are unsure at this stage when she will be home as it is up to how well she is recovering, but we know that she is in the best possible place.

Again thank you everyone for the love and support and thank you to the amazing people at Massey University Vet Hospital who have been looking after our baby girl!!

  • Surgery tomorrow

Inca's mum and Dad here, well it has been a very emotional day today, but we got the news we were hoping for and Inca is having surgery tomorrow!

They will be removing half of her bottom jaw. Unfortunately the area is too large to be replaced, but we all know how amazing dogs are at adapting, and she too will adapt to this once recovered and be pain free and give her more years with her family.

Vicky and Sarah our Vets at Massey today were absolutely amazing and have done so much to look after Inca and us, and we are so unbelievably grateful. Also to all of Inca's amazing supporters, the love, wishes and kind words have meant so much to us there is just no words that can express this. I am not a hugger but I wish I could hug you all! We will keep you all updated on her progress.

Xing is a bit lost without her sister tonight, and can't wait until she gets to come home again, so we are making sure she gets lots of love and cuddles.

The last 2 days have been a bit stressful, Mum and Dad have changed my medication in preparation for my appointment tomorrow at Massey and it upsets my tummy a little bit. I also had a visit to the Vets yesterday as Mum was worried about an infection.

Tomorrow is a big day for our family, it has been a bit of a wait, and we are glad it is finally here, but also feeling very nervous and stressed. Please send us lots of love and wishes as we have everything crossed for the best possible outcome tomorrow and a plan to get me better and back to being able to look after my family.

Thank you to all my amazing supporters, lots of love Inca xxx

  • Massey Appointment

      4 April 2022

Dad received the call from Massey today and I am all booked in for 9am Thursday 21 April. Dad tells me they will do some bloodwork, further sampling and CT scans of my jaw as well as my chest to ensure it is all clear. Once this is done they will then be able to plan my surgery and set up the date for this.

Dad has said the appointment is estimated to cost $2000-$3000 and at this stage the surgery is estimated at $4000. All I know is that this will mean I wont get my breakfast again that day so I am not too happy about that.

    Love Inca xxx
