My Name is Karen Welsh, I am hoping to raise funds for a disabled friend who's scooter has broken down and he struggles to use a wheel chair
Canterbury
Hi, My name is Karen Welsh and I am kindly asking for help for my disabled friend Ian Pugh. In 1997 Ian had 3 jobs and a partner when he was assaulted by three men that left him with serious head injuries, migraines and epilepsy. Ian lost everything, his jobs, his partner and his independence.
Over the next 5 years parts of Ians damaged brain started shutting down and affected his legs fist so he ended up in a wheel chair. Since then the pain and loss of feeling has started to travel up Ians body and now he is in so much pain in his chest trying to use a manual wheel chair and struggling.
He has had an older scooter now for some time, but has had nothing but problems with it since he got it, being on a low income had made this very difficult for him, the electrics in the scooter has gone and the quote is a $90 call out fee and a minimum of $800 to fix it.
Ian lives at home with his parents who are not in a financial position to help him, but as he lives at home ACC and WINZ will not help with repairs or a new/good secondhand scooter.
So now he is reduced to going back to the manual wheel chair which causes him so much pain, even for him to get down to the shop takes over and hour and on top of that they are rural so he has to try and navigate rough roads and a lot of large trucks travelling the same road.
Ian is the sort of person who is always helping everyone else including folk music festivals and anywhere else he can, he likes to feel useful and independent.
Will you please help give Ian his independence back, it will be so so appreciated, we will be very grateful for even the smallest of donations, every cent is a cent closer to making Ians life better.
Thank you, Karen.
Ian is a very good friend who is always helping everyone else, I am hoping between us all we can help him.
Thank you all so much 27 October 2016
