Inside Stories 2024 is photo programme Grey District tamariki, to teach camera skills and highlight what makes communities special.
Greymouth, West Coast
Human responses to losses experienced in natural disasters such as Cyclone Gabrielle and the Canterbury earthquakes have emphasised the importance of documenting our neighbourhoods and communities, so that we can reflect on who we are/were, and better understand the era we find ourselves in.
Inside Stories 2024 is collaborating with tamariki in the South Island’s Grey District. Workshops and mentoring will result in community exhibitions and a photography archive that showcases their communities from their perspectives.
- Tamariki will learn about photography, storytelling, curating, and exhibiting.
- People will learn about their neighbourhoods through the lens of younger people, and will learn more about what makes their community special.
- Rural and regional New Zealand will be documented authentically by locals, for locals. This ‘time capsule’ of photographs will be gifted to the community.
- Tamariki will have a safe photographic platform to express themselves and share what’s important for them right now.
