Help save a persecuted family in Iraq

A good friend of ours needs your help. She is an Iraqi who, with her husband, left Iraq to resettle in New Zealand. They have made a life for themselves here and are valued members of our community. Some members of her family, however, are still living in a terrible situation, previously, in Mosul- from which they were forced to flee- and now are in Dahuk, Iraq - which ISIS are now preparing to invade. They are desperate to leave. Her brother, sister-in-law, and 3 nieces and nephews have been trying to get refugee status for the last couple of years with no luck. The latest advice they have been given is to make their way to the refugee registration centre in Istanbul Turkey, where they can try to apply for refugee status. They are currently unable to do this, as they lack sufficient funding to make the move out of Iraq. Our Assyrian friend has been selling her jewellery and other belongings and saving her wages to try to raise the money to help them get to Turkey but she is struggling. We found out about her situation and decided we wanted to help out, and thought that maybe you would as well, so we set up this “Give a Little” page on her behalf.
