Weekend warrior to multisport battler all for Chasing Soul Charity!
Hamilton, Waikato
This summer I (Jonathan Brown) have committed to competing in the Ironman NZ and the Coast to Coast Longest Day - two of the toughest sport races in New Zealand. I want to use this massive physical and mental challenge to help raise funds for the Chasing Soul Charitable Trust – a charity we have established in the honour and memory of my brother, Stephen Brown, who we lost to suicide last year.
The charity seeks “to help people in our community who face mental health challenges and to also help those left behind from suicide or sudden death" www.chasingsoulcharity.org
Ironman NZ is 3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42km run triathlon in Taupo on Saturday 10th December 2022 https://www.ironman.com/im-new-zealand
Coast to Coast is a 243km multi-sport race that traverses from the West to East Coast of New Zealand’s South Island in a series of run, bike and kayak legs on Saturday 11th February 2023. https://www.coasttocoast.co.nz/
I always wanted to tackle to both of these iconic events ‘one day’ and through losing Stephen it has given me the motivation to make it happen. While I’ve always been into exercise, a couple of years ago I couldn’t swim or kayak and had never owned a road bike. So, it has been a crash course into the world of multisport!

Hi team, I just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU from the whole Brown family for your generous donation to the Chasing Soul Charity. Throughout this journey of the Ironman and Coast to Coast races, these goals have provided me with a healthy training structure and something to really focus on. During the races I often reflected on the messages of support and conversations I have had with you all and this helped keep me pushing when times got tough - which they sure did! Being able to achieve both of these life long goals within the space of a few months of each other is almost hard to believe for myself, but it is also deeply satisfying and fulfilling. I look forward to putting some real energy into the charity space this year and ultimately helping people in our communities. Please follow the Chasing Soul Charity social pages and websites for updates. Thanks again, JB
