    Isaiah’s Update – 4 Weeks & 3 Days After the Accident ❤️

Last week, Isaiah’s story was featured in the Horowhenua Chronicle with a beautiful front-page article sharing his journey so positively. We’re so grateful for the support shown.

It’s been another huge week of appointments, wound care, physio, ACC assessments, and chasing referrals after discovering some of Isaiah’s injuries had not been properly followed up after discharge. Thankfully, his skin graft is healing well, and one arm pin was removed during his hospital appointment.

We’ve had so much kindness shown our way — visitors bringing meals, petrol vouchers, fresh fish, help around home, and support with projects. Sunday’s working bee saw around 13 adults and teens helping spread gravel and improve the driveway. Thank you all so much.

The kids have been incredible through all of this, helping around the house, caring for pets, and even collecting prescriptions for their dad.

Monday I returned to work while continuing as Isaiah’s full-time carer around the clock. Between appointments, paperwork, phone calls, homeschooling, caring for the kids, animals, and managing daily life, it’s been overwhelming at times — but we’re getting through one day at a time.

Thank you all again for the ongoing love and support ❤️

  • Isaiah’s QUICK Update – Day 19 ❤️

      16 May 2026

We got the most amazing news today — despite the long list of injuries, Isaiah has officially been cleared to come home tomorrow night, as there’s not much more the hospital can do while he heals. ❤️

Today was huge with plans quickly falling into place. Around 42 stitches were removed from his hand and wrist, although the skin graft site and external fixator still need ongoing care.

His mum and brother visited today, but Isaiah also spent a lot of the day catching flies with his eyes closed and mouth wide open, reminding us all so much of his dad 😂❤️

I also did a late-night clothes shop so he has something comfortable to wear home tomorrow. Finding warm clothes to fit over the external fixator has definitely been a challenge!

We’ve also organised more treats for all the hospital staff, right down to the cleaners and meal distributors. Their work never goes unnoticed and they truly are the glue that holds the hospital together. ❤️

The support we’ve received continues to blow us away. The Givealittle and every act of kindness will help so much with the long road ahead — more surgeries, appointments, rehabilitation, transport, and loss of income while Isaiah recovers.

Tonight was our last little roll and stroll around the hospital before bed. ❤️

Thank you all again so much for standing beside us through this journey. ❤️

  • Isaiah’s Update - Day 18 ❤️

      16 May 2026

The last few days have been incredibly tough for Isaiah, both physically and mentally. More injuries have been discovered, including fractures in his right leg and hand, plus a medial meniscus tear in his right knee — meaning both knees are now injured.

The constant tests, scans, trauma assessments, and lack of communication from hospital staff have left Isaiah exhausted and overwhelmed. He has also suffered 5 migraine aura episodes in 4 days, spending most of his time in a dark room wearing sunglasses trying to cope.

Despite everything, we finally feel like we’re starting to be heard after meetings with trauma nurses, social workers, and ACC. Plans are slowly beginning for eventually bringing Isaiah home, although we still don’t know when that will be.

Isaiah currently has at least 29 documented injuries and complications, including multiple fractures, ligament tears, concussion, surgeries, skin grafts, infections, and injuries affecting both his upper and lower limbs.

His pain remains difficult to manage and sleep has been minimal, but visits from friends and family have truly lifted his spirits. One of his favourite parts of each day has become our quiet nighttime wheelchair rides around the hospital for fresh air. ❤️

The wheelchair ramp is now installed at home, his hospital bed has arrived, and we’re slowly preparing for the long recovery journey ahead.

Thank you again for standing beside us through all of this.

  • Isaiah Update as of Yesterday 11th of May

Firstly, thank you all so much for the continued love and support. Every message means so much to Isaiah and our family.

The weekend was busy with visitors, which really lifted Isaiah’s spirits, especially having Livy come up to support Nikau and spend time with us all. ❤️

Isaiah has had a few setbacks over the last couple of days. Another IV line blew in his hand, and he’s had multiple X-rays on his wrist, ankles, and knee due to ongoing pain and abnormal movement. We’re hoping for good results tomorrow and no further casts.

One positive has been Isaiah receiving his new electric wheelchair. We’ve spent the evenings practicing around the hospital, and it’s given him a little independence back. ❤️

Pain levels have been extremely difficult this weekend, with very little sleep and ongoing discomfort from his surgical and skin graft sites. Today the nurses doubled his pain relief in hopes of giving him some relief.

I also had to rush back to the hospital today after Isaiah experienced an aura migraine, but thankfully his medication has now been sorted for future episodes.

Tomorrow I’ll head home briefly to prepare the house for Isaiah’s hospital bed and wheelchair ramp installation.

Lastly, thank you will never feel like enough. To everyone supporting our family through messages, visits, meals, shares, and donations — we truly couldn’t do this without you all. ❤️

  • ❤️Isaiah’s Update ❤️

      6 May 2026

Yesterday, Isaiah had 9 visitors, which lifted his spirits. He had another wrist X-ray and had stitches removed from his eye and nose.

Unfortunately, he’s developed an infection in his arm where an IV was left in too long. Nurses are tracing the redness daily, and we’ve had more ACC forms to complete.

Today has been much quieter. Isaiah has been in a lot of pain as swelling goes down and more injuries come to light. He’s also been taken off the PCA morphine pump, which has been a tough adjustment physically and mentally.

It’s hit him hard emotionally as the reality of recovery time sinks in. Seeing him so down has been heartbreaking.

His mum visited today, making it a calm day. He also had more X-rays on his fingers, and dressings were changed, revealing pins, fixator sites, and more stitches — a lot to take in.

We’ve been contacted by media wanting to share his story, which has been overwhelming. Retelling everything has been emotionally exhausting, and we’re still unsure if there will be any outcome regarding the hit-and-run.

We are so grateful to our families caring for our boys and animals, and to everyone supporting us. We are also incredibly thankful to the hospital staff who have been amazing.

Isaiah has been very sleepy but still enjoying calls with loved ones. I’m slowly recovering from the flu.

We are truly overwhelmed by the support on the Givealittle page. We read every message, and they mean more than words can say.

    All our love,

Rebecca, Isaiah & our boys ❤️
