Bring Krishna Back Home to Wellington!

  • A Major Milestone for Our New Temple!

      6 October 2026

    Hare Krishna dear devotees,

We are very happy to share some wonderful news. After a long wait and a lot of work, the Building Consent for the renovation of our new ISKCON temple at Petone has finally been granted!

This is a very important milestone for our community. We have been working through the consent process for many months, responding to requirements and making changes to the plans, and we are very grateful to Sri Sri Gaura Nitai, Srila Prabhupada and all the devotees who have supported us through this journey.

Now we can move to the next stage of actually starting the renovation work.

    🔨 What happens next?

    • We are currently receiving the final revised quotes from builders based on the consented drawings.

    • Once the final quotes are received, we will select the builder, finalise the contract and get the renovation underway.

    • In the meantime, we have already started some demolition work at the site that we can do ourselves.

💰 We will also need your continued support with Laxmi. Our initial indication is that even after reducing the scope of Stage 1, we will still have a shortfall to complete the Stage 1 renovation. So, if you are able to contribute, all donations, big or small, will be very much appreciated.

Let us all pray for Sri Sri Gaura Nitai's mercy and for a smooth and successful completion of the renovation.

    Hare Krishna! 🙏

  • Project Update – Significant Progress Towards Building Consent

      2 June 2026

    Dear supporters and well-wishers,

We would like to share an update on the progress of the new ISKCON Wellington temple.

As many of you know, we successfully secured the new property and obtained Resource Consent to operate it as a place of worship. Since then, significant work has taken place behind the scenes.

Our architects, engineers, and consultants have completed the detailed plans and reports required for Building Consent. The full application has been submitted to Lower Hutt City Council for review.

The Council has completed its initial assessment and provided a detailed list of questions and requests for clarification. We are pleased to report that our consultants have responded to all queries and submitted the required information.

We are now awaiting further feedback from the Council and are hopeful that Building Consent approval is not far away.

At the same time, we have begun engaging with builders and contractors to obtain renovation quotations. Early indications suggest that the total project cost may be higher than originally estimated. Once firm quotations are received, we will provide a further update.

We are deeply grateful for the support, encouragement, and generosity that has brought the project this far. Every donation, prayer, and word of encouragement brings us one step closer to reopening Krishna's doors in Wellington.

Thank you for being part of this historic project.

    Your servants,

    ISKCON Wellington Temple Project Team
