Hi there, with just 6 days to go before the work on the cycle path commences . Can you assure myself and other donors that donations will be refunded if not enough is raised to proceed with court action? And also before making a significant donation I really want to know that I have the support of the wider island bay community. Do you have a website/ facebook page database of supporters, proposed meetings or just contact details?? Look forward to your response.

Thanks for your question.

Before this action was commenced a community meeting was held, where it was unanimously decided to proceed, it was also agreed as it would be impossible to refund money, as a lot of donations are anonymous, that any funds not used for court action, will be used for the Island Bay Community as agreed by the Society. This is also in the Societies rules. The Society is The Democratic Voice for Island Bay Incorporated. Yes there is a facebook page under the society name.

Thanks for the prompt reply. The WCC analysis of submissions on Stage 1 of the Island Bay to City Cycle Route, 20 May 2014, showed that 65% of Island Bay residents submitted in favour of the kerbside cycle lane. http://wellington.govt.nz/~/media/services/parking-and-roads/cycling/files/shorland2wakefield/shorland-to-wakefield-submissions.pdf.

Please clarify the statement "The majority of the Island Bay community have voted against the councils current plan for cycleways". Note that 65% of submissions from Island Bay residents were in favour of the kerbside cycleway.

Thanks for your question, I'm not sure where you have got your stats from but that is definitely not the case.

I think you may be getting confused with those that support safe cycling, as we all do, and those that oppose the current proposal.

I have supplied give a little with the official stats.
