All funds raised go towards the ongoing care of Soul, a cat found starving to death in the Hunua Ranges on the 3rd December.
Auckland
Soul was found at a campsite, living in a BBQ and severely emaciated. He's definitely not a feral cat, but a tame one that has ended up in the wrong place. He was weak and starving, and desperate for any scraps and water we gave him. I vowed to rescue him as I couldn't stand the thought of leaving him there to die, even though I had nowhere for him to live and couldn't afford vet bills. I borrowed a cat cage and went back to pick him up and bring him home. The next morning it was straight to the vets. They were astounded he was still alive in his condition, and not sure his organs would still work correctly. They thought he would need intensive care and a blood transfusion to survive as his red blood cell count was just 7%!
He was started on a strict re-feeding programme with only 4ml of special food at a time to help his wee body get used to eating again. He spent a few days at the vet hospital being monitored, then a day at work with me. He improved slowly and by the weekend he was allowed to go home with Melissa, who generously offered him a loving home and has named him Soul. With a lot of patience and re-feeding, a week later his red blood cells are now up to 19% and he is a lively and cuddly cat who is loving his new life.
He still has a long way to go until he is fully recovered. By all accounts this cat shouldn't have survived, and he is now known as the miracle kitty at the vets! If you'd like to help us give him the best second chance at life we possibly can, please donate, every dollar counts <3
The first week of veterinary care cost over $400, and he needs weekly vet visits until he is healthy again. All funds raised will help to pay for his rescue costs, special food and weekly vet visits to monitor his recovery. Any excess funds raised will go towards the adoption fee for a kitty friend for Soul from the SPCA.
