Jacinda needs support

Low income family need support to help Jacinda with her horrifying medical journey, it will be many months before she is walking again.

Whangarei, Northland

Jacinda is a 23 year old high functioning delightful, young woman with autism. She loves cooking, cats and her family. She is a kind soul. She lives in Whangarei with her family.

10 days ago we realized something was seriously wrong and I rushed her to the hospital. She had recently recovered from a double virus and had been in bed for a few weeks. She was complaining of pains in her leg and upon investigation at the hospital they discovered a cyst larger than a rugby ball. ( 33cm x 29cm x 15cm)

It had moved several organs and created a massive blood clot which was blocking most of the blood flow to the painful leg. A few days later they found small clots in her lungs as well.

This has meant she is on blood thinners and they can't operate for a few weeks. Meanwhile the leg is swelling and the stomach is growing. She will be helicoptered to Auckland as soon as possible to get the specialist care she needs and best surgeons. The plan is to use a filter inside the vein to contain the clot going to the leg. Then operate to remove the cyst, 1 ovary and attached tube. Anything else that they find at the time will be dealt with too.

As my husband and I are self employed on a very low income, this means times are financially tough at the moment for us and we are struggling to pay the bills. Let alone pay for expenses in Auckland to be with Jacinda. There will be extra accomodation, food and petrol to fund.

As hard as it is to ask, we would appreciate any support that you can offer.

Use of funds

The money will help pay for petrol, parking in Auckland, food and accommodation. Due to more hours supporting Jacinda there is minimal work being done to generate an income, so it also will help pay the household bills in Whangarei.

DVT Blood Clot Removal  22 August 2026

Jacinda is scheduled to have her blood clot removed on 24/08/26 at Auckland City Hospital. There will be several teams of specialists involved. They will access the blood clot through the back of her knee, possibly also the groin and through the neck. There is also a vein that was a little crushed from the massive cyst that may require a stent. During the same operation they will also most likely remove the filter that was inserted to stop the blood clot from moving during her prior surgeries. Jacinda is still holding up well except for the continual blood tests as she does not have any good vein on her left side for them to get the blood required to test her levels - these are now done every 6 hours. (Better than the 3 hours prior). But she is now a pin cushion with loads of bruises.
