Help Jahna live a little!

$235 of $3,500 goal
Given by 6 generous donors in around 4 months

Please help the beautiful rotti girl, Jahna, have an operation that will save her life.

Auckland

I am applying for help on behalf of my aunty who has a Rottweiler with severe hip dysplasia. Jahna was purchased from a breeder on the 29th of November. Both her parents had papers however the pups did not as the breeders were not wanting them to be bred from, preferring them to be pets only. She has been growing beautifully and everyone says what a lovely dog she is. However three months ago Jahna started limping. My aunty took her straight to the vet where she was ultimately diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia and dysplasia of both front elbows, the right being the worst. Currently she is getting all types of medications and injections which do not seem to help much. Jahna has to be lifted off high objects such as a couch and sometimes the floor because she finds it so difficult to get up and she is not even one year old.

The news was devastating not only to my aunty but to the whole family who have really grown to love Jahna. My aunty was told by the veterinarian that the only alternative to euthanasia is to get an operation which is done at Massey University in Palmerston North but this would cost in excess of $7,000.00.

We are almost left with no choice except to as for help from whoever will give it. We really want to get the surgery for Jahna that will give her quality of life. The only other option is euthanasia. The surgery involves arthroscopy of both front elbows which has a high success rate of improving function but it is best to get this done before one year of age.

If this were simply a case of getting a new dog that would be easy but my aunty has grown to absolutely love Jahna. Jahna is the most beautiful dog and has the most amazing temperament, is wonderful with other dogs (even when they steal her food) is wonderful with children and does not deserve to have her life ended so young, from a treatable condition. If there is any way you can help us we would be eternally grateful.

I'm involved because I know what it is like to love a pet and have to see them go. However, it is worse when that pet has not lived a full life and has a treatable condition and you are only limited by money. I have applied to various institutes for assistance but none has been offered.
