    Hello Givealittlers

Here's a story to tell you how much your donations mean to our beleaguered boy, Jamie Alexander Dickens, who is celebrating his birthday last week, the seventh of September.

How Jamie and his Givealittle Scooter Saved the Day

Last month Jamie had an infection. His guardian angels were out of town so Mother Me dashed off to Wellington the very next day for nursing duties. Fortunately the infection was nipped in the bud by timely advice from the team at Margaret Stewart House.

This gave us time to look at what was realistically available for rent in Wellington. Not a lot. Meanwhile, my cobbled together accommodation required moving from one apartment to another, then to Ibis and back again to the apartment. Not used to travelling solo I dithered over one departure and couldn't crack the code to place the key in it's locked box.

Later that day I received an irate phone call from the apartment manager asking where the !@#%*^! key was. Jamie took charge, calmed the caller (you know the voice) and said he'd have it back in fifteen minutes. Which he did. On his Givealittle Scooter!

    In his own words

'It's great to go somewhere and not be exhausted.'

    *******************************************************************

The accommodation situation for Jamie is still uncertain but there is light at the end of the tunnel. In the meantime your Givealittle contributions are going towards his current living quarters (where the Beatles once stayed!)

For Marley's school holiday airfare to Wellington from the South Island and for health supplements including Bee Balm from CommonSense Organics.

A compatible kidney has not yet appeared, however, the Kidney Exchange Programme, Live Kidney Donation Aotearoa (0800 717 777) where donor kidneys are matched to recipients could be called into play. (Play doesn't sound quite the right word but the meaning behind the phrase is there.)

We are looking forward to having all The Dickens' Boys together in Wellingon in the school holidays.

Thank you very much for your kind donations.

    Sincerely

    Jan and Malcolm Dickens

  • UPDATE - JULY 2018

      16 July 2018

Let it be known that every dollar donated on this site has lifted a load of worry from the shoulders of Jamie Alexander Dickens.

The move to Wellington has seen him run slap bang into an accommodation crisis. His lovely friends Christina and Grace have been navigating him through this, stepping in to help when needed, while Jamie’s cousin Heidi has managed this site, and so much more.

Jamie’s appetite has improved and hopefully he is on that highway to health, destination As-Well-As-He-Can-Be, to accommodate

    a donor kidney.

To quote Dr Tom Mulholland from his column in the Sunday Star Times (June 10, 2018) titled ‘When kidneys turn bad’

‘I met a transplant surgeon who said doing a transplant was like sticking a Ferrari motor in a Holden’.

    (Quoted with permission).

We hope there’s a Ferrari Motor out there revving up to slot into our battered Holden aka Jamie.

A heartfelt thank you to you all.

    Jan and Malcolm Dickens
