Support this great Ōtautahi Christchurch jazz community - and come along for a great time, twice each month.
Christchurch, Canterbury
The Jazz Up jazz jam is held twice a month, on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday, at the Good Times Comedy Club in Ōtautahi Christchurch. We've been running since November 2021. We'll hold our 60th jam in September 2024.
Jazz Up is an incredible community and a mainstay of the local jazz scene. All ages come along. Beginners and hobbyists get to play with professionals, and everybody extends their skills. It's a welcoming, safe and inclusive atmosphere. And the level of talent on display is amazing. Most people come along just to listen and enjoy the buzz.
Unfortunately, Jazz Up is not sustainable at the moment.
We don't charge for entry. We count on people buying drinks and food at the bar. But we can't make ends meet at the current rate. We pay the 5 members of the house band members a mere $40 each time, a gesture to acknowledge their time and commitment. But the club can't make enough over the bar to cover the $200 each night.
So we are putting up this page for anyone who appreciates Jazz Up, and wants to do more to support this wonderful community.
The money will be paid to Russell Stedman who is underwriting the jam for Sep-Oct-Nov-Dec 2024, so that he is not so badly out of pocket. If we can raise $200 a month, we'll break even, so the target is $800 for the rest of 2024.
Thanks for supporting!
