UPDATE

Sadly Jeg passed away peacefully yesterday, with his family present.

Jeg is coming home from 11am Monday 30 January. Visitors are welcome to pop in and share stories and memories.

A funeral ceremony will be held at The Pines @ 1pm on Tuesday 31 January. The Pines is at 50 The Esplanade, Houghton Bay. Jeg would want you to come in your most comfortable clothes! There will be an opportunity to speak for those who wish to.

After the ceremony, please join Quinby, Fynn and I at home for refreshments.

Thank you for all your messages and incredible support on this page. It means so much.

This is our dear friend, Jegvan. He is a loving dad, husband, son & brother - with a heart the size of Texas.

Jeg was diagnosed with a grade 4 terminal brain tumour just over 12 months ago. No-one saw it coming - he just woke up one night out of the blue last summer having a massive seizure. He is only 53 and thought he was doing all the right things - eating well, biking up and down hills to get to work, walking home for lunch, not smoking and only having a few drinks. He's hugely involved in his kids' sports and community.

Over the last year Jeg has had two invasive brain surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation. But his tumour has stopped responding to treatment and his condition is deteriorating. He has lost most of his speech and all physical movement except his left arm.

Jeg and Aleca don't like to ask for help. They're usually the ones doing the helping. They will work their butts off themselves to make things work, rather than burden others. But as Jeg's condition deteriorates, the financial strain is taking its toll - Jeg hasn't been able to work for more than a year and Aleca is only working part time in a childcare centre, so she can look after Jeg. Aleca herself is recovering from grade 3 bowel cancer diagnosed in 2010, but somehow still manages to keep on keeping on. Jeg and Aleca have a daughter (just turned 16) and a son aged 12. Jeg is worried about how they can cover the expenses of his treatment, and still have enough to live on as a family.

So their friends have pulled this page together to support this brave family. Please help if you can - any contributions will be enormously appreciated.
