Helping a Mum to get access to non funded life extending cancer treatment, so she can be there for her two young children.
Otago
Jo is a mum of two beautiful young children, who is fighting stage 4 bowel cancer.
Jo did all the right things, but delays through no fault of her own, meant her cancer diagnosis was found late. This has resulted in the cancer spreading to her other organs to include her liver and lungs, and up until recently, treatment made available through the public health system had little effect. With no other options available through the public system, Jo only option is to access an unfunded drug called Cetuximab which she started in February of this year.
Providing much needed hope, the tumours are now shrinking and some have even disappeared completely. Unfortunately, this drug is horrendously expensive, with just 6 months of treatment costing $87,000. This medication is keeping Jo alive and giving her precious time with her children.
It is not easy for Jo to reach out for help as she has always been a strong and independent woman, however as a Mum she now needs help in her fight to stick around for her family.
Anything you can offer would be gratefully received.
Have become a friend to Jo in a support role - we were connected following her cancer diagnosis.
Assistance to fund non funded cancer treatment (Cetuximab). Transport to treatment which is located 3 hours from Jos home of residence. Assistance to ensure her children get the support they need whilst they walk alongside their Mum under ongoing cancer treatment.
