May I proudly introduce Briar 🐾
8 April 2026Thank you. 💛
As you know, my beautiful Golden Retriever, Shelby, passed away from leukemia in November 2025. Losing her hit me harder than I can put into words. She wasn’t just my closest companion — she was my helper. Every single day, she made life easier in so many physical ways. And with Friedreichs Ataxia, where the progression can be choppy and sometimes overwhelming, Shelby was my furry rock. Steady. Loyal. Irreplaceable.
But because of the epic generosity of everyone who donated to my Give a Little page, I’m writing this with a new furry friend by my side. 💕
Meet Briar. She’s a cream-colored Labrador, and she was matched with me on January 19. Over the past 11 weeks, she has learned the ropes and has already established herself in my heart and home. She comes with me to the gym, to my studio in town, even on flights around the country!
Once we hit the three-month mark, Briar will officially become my new mobility assistance dog. But in so many ways, she already is.
Thank you for giving me back my independence, my hope, and my four-legged sidekick. You made this possible. 🐾
With all my gratitude,
Joe (and Briar)
