John is off on a student teacher exchange to Denmark and needs your help.
I need help to make a fabulous learning opportunity come to reality.

I am a second year student teacher and was lucky to receive a scholarship for a five week international teacher exchange. Originally, this was meant to take place in Singapore, but due to appearance related restrictions (no visible tattoos or piercings), my application was put on hold. While this was disappointing, I’m happy to share that Waikato University has worked with me and the exchange programme to secure a new opportunity, I’ll now be heading to Denmark in January!
This exchange is a wonderful opportunity for me to develop my teaching skills heading into my third and final year at university. I have been doing really well with my studies hence this scholarship opportunity. Please help me out to make it all happen.
Use of funds
07/09/2025: Accomodation and meals in Singapore and rent and utilities at home while I am away.
26/09/2025:
- Accommodation and meals while I’m in Denmark
- Rent and utilities at home in New Zealand while I’m away
- Travel-related costs and essentials for the exchange
- Any additional expenses related to preparing for the trip

It's been a tough few weeks! 26 September 2025
Hi team, and thanks so much for your support. I have been on a bit of a roller coaster recently so sorry for my silence. However, I think we are back on track with a different destination!
About two weeks ago I got notice that the Ministry of Education in Singapore does not allow visible tattoos nor can male teachers have any piercings. Now, those who know me know I am an aficionado of both those things. After some discussion about covering up etc. my application to Singapore was put on hold. This was obviously disappointing and quite distressing for me but fear not. Waikato University worked with me and with the teacher exchange to Denmark and it looks like I am off to the snow in Jan instead. I can't begin to say how excited I am about this and it seems Europe are a lot more relaxed about tattoos :-)
