Jonah Ioapo Vili - Cancer Journey.

  • Latest Update.

      29 June 2026
    Main image

We have received the heartbreaking news from the doctor that Jonah doesn't have much time left with us.

We were hoping Jonah would make it to Mum's 75th birthday on 29 September, but sadly that may be too far away for our uso.

Jonah is no longer able to walk. He is bedridden and has very little appetite. He has made the decision to remain at home rather than enter hospice care.

If you would like to visit Jonah, please send him a message via Messenger to arrange a suitable time. We encourage you to visit sooner rather than later, while he is still able to have a conversation with you.

If you are unable to visit Jonah please send him a message.

Thank you for keeping Jonah and our whānau in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Alofa atu from The Vili Aiga <3

Thanks to Glenn for organizing the event, to Launch and Sharon for setting up the club and for the hoodie, Johnny and Simon for the photos, Veda for the TC shirt and the Lee whanau for your generous gift. Finally thank you to all that showed up and the ones who couldn't and left well wishes. Hey peeps just letting you all know that we will be up at the Mt Wellington Warriors Rugby League Clubrooms, Thompson Park, this Friday night the 19th of June from 6pm to have a few beers and a laugh with the brother Jonah💙 The bro will be on the non-alcoholic beers but would be a great opportunity to come up and share the love and brighten up his day. Jonah would love to see some old friends and family he hasn't seen in a long time as the brothers health is declining, so if you're free to come up and catch up for a bit then this would be the time to do so. Hope to see some of you then.

Family Working Bee - This morning we gave Jonahs garden/lawns a bit of a tidy up. Jonah can't do his lawns anymore so we've taken over this for him. If you see him sitting on his front deck please feel free to yell out or just walk in and say hi😍 Was great to see the family chipping in where possible. Mum loves gardening and the exercise is good for her. Even though we had electric tools, Mum was hard out in there with her tools and sleeves rolled up❤️

Great news today—Jonah got to return home to celebrate our sister Melissa’s 52nd birthday!

We had a lovely dinner surrounded by family and enjoyed lots of St Pierre’s sushi. 😄

As you can imagine, Jonah is tired most of the time. While we love spending time with him, we also understand that he needs plenty of rest.

If you'd like to visit, please PM Jonah directly. He enjoys receiving messages, and visitors always bring a smile to his face.

Thank you all for your ongoing support. Please share Jonah’s page with your contacts. ❤️

Jonah had another blood transfusion today. He has another check up in the morning and then hopefully gets the all clear to go home, even if it's for a day or 2. Our sister Melissa turns 52 tomorrow so we hope Jonah makes it home to see Melissa blow out her candles. Next week I'll take Jonah on a little tiki tour of the hood and stop at a few places we frequented as kids and recreate some pics we took as kids. A few locations would be, GI, Panmure, Pt England Beach, Panmure Wharf, Mt Wellington and probably Tamaki College. Thank you all for your continued support. Please PM Jonah if you would like to visit him, he enjoys waking up to messages from you all <3

Seeing Jonah smile means everything. Having his TC Boys visit tonight meant a lot. I was lucky enough to be the little brother that tagged along to everything so his boys became brothers to me and my sisters and they all became sons to Mum and Dad. Their ties run deep, from primary, intermediate and college, to GI Falcons and The Mt Wellington Warriors, their alofa and loyalty to eachother is neverending. We've all been blessed by these men who are family to us. This is just a small group of them, Jonah was blessed with lots of mates, brothers, uso's! We can't thank you enough for visiting - If you're wanting to visit Jonah, please PM him, if walking in, he is in Ward 63 of the Auckland Hospital. Ask for him at Ward 63 reception. Thanks for supporting everyone <3

Jonah's hospital stays can go from 1 day to a week. Sometimes check-ups turn into hospital stays. It's true what they say, you should make the most of everyday and spend as much time as you can with the ones you love because tomorrow is never promised to anyone. Right now we're spending as much time as we can with Jonah, sometimes we talk about the good old days and sometimes just sitting in silence with him is special too. Jonah still likes to chat but we can tell he's tired so we tell him to not worry about us and have his naps. We are grateful for just being able to sit with him. Please keep sending your prayers, we all appreciate them. If you would like to visit please send Jonah a PM to make sure he's in. If you're walking in he's in Ward 63. Thanks everyone <3

Malo Family. We were hoping Jonah would get to go home today but looks like he'll be in Auckland hospital until Tuesday or Wednesday. More tests and more radiation therapy coming up. Unfortunately his cancer is still growing and spreading, the plan is to slow it down as much as possible. We hope and pray everyday for a miracle. Hang in there uso, we love you and UP DA HURRICANES :D Thank you for your support family <3

Jonah has 2 adult kids, Athena and Jaguar. Jag has 2 kids Niko and Levanah. Last Saturday, some of the family took a road trip up north to Kaikohe/Ngawha to visit Athena and Jags Mum, Raelene Murray, who is resting at the St Michaels Anglican Church. What a beautiful visit this was and what a beautiful little church in a beautiful little town with lots of character. This was on Jonahs Bucket List so it was great to be there with him and tick this one off. Thank you everyone for supporting our bro and please share his givealittle page around <3

Hi Family & Friends - All treatment at Oncology has stopped and his chemo line has been removed after 5 months. He will take meds for the rest of his life and therapeutic treatment from the Hospice nurses. Body is weak but mind is strong.

Tanner - Jonah and the kids, Athena and Jaguar, are planning to travel up north this weekend to Ngawha Marae to visit their Mum Raeleen Murray who rests at the St Michael's Anglican Cemetery. Jonah's been prepping for this so hopefully he has enough energy to get there comfortably and back safe.

Keep sending your prayers please <3

A few weeks back some of the family got together and went to the movies to watch "Michael" It was a great walk down memory lane as we grew up with Michael, his music, his posters, his collector cards, his everything. I think this is the very 1st time I've been to the movies with Mum and Jonah at the same time. Another cool thing ticked off the list. Wish we had done this sooner so if you still have time, go and take a loved one out to a movie or even just for a coffee. Stay safe everyone <3

    Update for Dad.

    Hi family and friends.

Two weeks ago Dad went in for a consultation with oncology doctors but had to stay in hospital for 2 days to have 2 more blood transfusions. Before being discharged, it was decided that due to the cancer still growing in his liver and all the bad side effects that have worsened in the past few months, chemo treatment is no longer an option. The doctor would rather he lived his life out with quality and my dad has agreed as the pain from the chemo on his insides was getting worse. He has help from Cancer Society and Hospice nurses with home visits. We are praying Dad makes it to 2027 or at least Nana's birthday in September.

Dad is starting to tick off his bucket list.

    (1) Take us up Kaikohe to visit our mum’s grave at the end of this month.

    (2) Celebrate his grandkids birthdays this month.

    (3) Take us on an all-day fishing trip on a boat.

    (4) Make Nana’s 75th birthday in September.

    (5) Visit old haunts to see old friends.

    (6) Retire from Men of Steel.

    (7) Family quality time and outings.

Dad is a simple man with simple needs and a Dad’s sense of humour. He will stay himself until the end and thanks everyone for their alofa and support over these last months.

Thank you to everyone for your support. Please post and share the GiveALittle link to all of your contacts.

    Stay safe everyone, alofa atu.
