Jan has had more than $7000 stolen from her, but the perpetrator only has to pay back $3500. Please help make up the extra
Otago
Jan, an 80 year old Dunedin resident, was befriended by her neighbor Dorothy Pearson several months ago who offered to help her with the grocery shopping. This women, upon learning the pin for her card, spent the next ten months stealing more than $7000 before Jan realized something was amiss.
Since the offender no longer has a job and is waiting for her benefit to come into place, she only has to pay back $3500 at $30 a week, which will take more than two years to pay off.
I feel this is a true injustice towards someone who was only guilty of trusting her neighbour, therefore I hope to raise enough to cover the rest of the money she has lost.
The only relation I have is that I live in Dunedin as well. I was moved by the sense of injustice in her case, and wanted to help in anyway I could.
This will help restore her severely depleted retirement funds, allowing her to live more comfortably.
