Firefighters are constantly helping their communities with the work they do. Now they need your help...
Southland
Firefighters looking after, and looking out for, other firefighters.
This is the core reason for the new initiative, K10 in te Anau. In firefighter radio jargon, K10 means to recommission, to get the gear back in working order, ready for the next call-out. We think it's time our firefighters have the chance to 'recommission'.
Firefighters are an integral part of the communities they serve. With the ever increasingly traumatic incidents firefighters are confronted with, it only stands to reason that their mental health suffers, often going unnoticed. Too often they suffer in silence. This is where we, the firefighters of the Te Anau Volunteer Fire Brigade, step in.
We would like to bring a struggling firefighter and their partner to our wonderful town on an all expenses paid trip. The whole idea being they can come and relax, rejuvenate, recommission. This is where the K10 comes from.
But we can't do it alone. We need YOU!
The amazing, supportive, locals have generously donated some accommodation, meals, trips, massages and activities. However, we still need cash donations for the things the locals can't supply, like flights, car rentals and other incidental expenses.
It would be amazing if other Fire Brigades around the country pick up on it, and offer their towns to firefighters doing it tough as well.

This is not just a one-off. We aim to bring firefighters from across the country throughout the year to Te Anau.
