Kaiden is going to be having laryngotracheal reconstruction surgery at starship hospital on 20th March

Auckland

Kaiden was born premature at 24 weeks on 19th July 2015. He had a rough first 6 months of his life. While in the nicu he contracted a number of infections with two more serious ones. At 7 days old it was ecoli sepsis infection that turned into menigitis. At 6 weeks old it was a staph sepsis iinfection that resulted in abcesses in both his lungs. His doctors had never seen this before so he was on an oscialtor (life support) for 6 weeks. Kaiden was given less then 10% chance of surviving but our amazing little man pulled through. But because of the long time being on life support it cause scar tissue to grow and block the majority of his airway. This is called subglotic stenosis and it is at grade 3. He has a number of other airway issues that cause his airway to collapse at the same time. This surgery if succesful will let him breathe without struggling.

Lungs and lung issues!  11 April 2017

I thought I would just update everyone. I received a phone call yesterday saying that despite the many xrays Kaiden has had ed Drs missed seeing that the left lower lobe collapsed and has been since November. This is frustrating but it is what it is. Kaidens xrays are terrible with the amount of damage it shows so things can be easily missed if it has been an on going issue and not the emergency we are in there for. Kaiden will have a 2nd surgery (not sure if it will be the same hospital stay) to wash out his lungs and they will then put a couple of stitches in if needed. This 2nd surgery is to diagnose a 2nd lung disease that causes more damage and infections. So this isn't great either but if we put a name to the issue the Drs have to help more to fix it so we are being positive with the understanding that it will help in the long run. Kaiden is good though and is the same happy little boy that is full of attitude
