2023 The Year of the Bus - we are so close, help Kaitoke School get a new bus!
Whanganui, Manawatu-Wanganui
Our wonderful little semi-rural school is located just 7.2 km out of Whanganui. We are a country school of 108 students.
Our school is in desperate need of a new school bus as our current bus is a 1990 Nissan Diesel bus which was purchased in 2004. It has been a fantastic bus for our little school but now it is 32 years old and it is starting to need more and more maintenance that is costing the school a lot of money. Recently it was brought to our attention that the bus also now needs new airbags in the front and the rust is starting to become a very real problem.
Our bus is a Board Owned Bus and we get no government funding - we fund it out of our school funds and donations that we receive. Over the last 4 years we have had a deficit bus budget due to ongoing mechanical and electrical repairs on the bus.
Our school bus picks up and drops off up to 50 students each day from around Kaitoke and central Whanganui, and offers our families a school of choice. It also allows all our children to access Education Outside of the Classroom (EOTC) as we use it for school trips both in and out of town. It is such an important part of our Kura (school) and tamariki (children) and we are determined to fundraise as much money as we can to make this happen! It is our KEY FOCUS FOR 2023 and we need your help.
