Kapi has always been the provider – not just for his own whānau, but for anyone who needed it. Always giving, never taking.
Taumarunui, Manawatu-Wanganui
In September 2020, Kapi was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. He underwent surgery to remove the tumour, followed by six months of chemotherapy. After that, he was in the clear for nearly four years.
In March 2024, another tumour was found on his spine. Surgery and radiotherapy followed. Then in May, Kapi discovered a lump on his neck. Sadly, this turned out to be an aggressive form of cancer involving the BRAF gene mutation.
The treatment Kapi is currently on doesn’t usually work well for BRAF cancers. One option was an unfunded drug costing $125,000, but with him already undergoing chemotherapy, doctors were unsure how effective it would be. Kapi has chosen to continue with his current treatment, travelling to Waikato every two weeks.
Doctors have given Kapi an estimated 15 months – but that’s just the scientific timeline. We know his timeline will be longer. Kapi, Terese, and their 5 beautiful babies will fight right to the end.
We are reaching out for financial support to help Kapi and his whānau through this journey. Any contribution, big or small, will make a huge difference and is deeply appreciated.
Thank you for standing with Kapi and his whānau.
