Help us get Kara's story out there.
Auckland
Kara Nelson is a 98-year-old who is full of life. She has written a story of her life, which she initially intended to be for her family to read. However, it's too good not to share more widely.
Kara has a natural, witty writing style and so many good stories to tell, from her early days in Britain, to teaching music in Canada, to coming to NZ, and eventually coming to Waiheke Island and marrying Colin. She is a peace activist and a musician. She is a member of the Hip Hop-eration crew and featured in their recent documentary.
Here's a snippet of her writing:
"The youngest of four, I had two sisters: Emily was eleven, Mollie (christened Mary) was ten, and brother Tom was six when I arrived. Mother told me that I was born at home, and when Tom came home from school she asked what he thought she had in bed with her. Ever hopeful, Tom said, “A dog?” "
Kara would like to self publish but she needs funds to enable this. We estimate $8,500 will cover editing, production and distribution costs. Kara cannot afford this alone.
Funds from sales will go directly to Kara.
Please help if you can.
Kara and I have been friends for many years. I would love to help her realise her dream of having her book published.
Funds raised will go to the costs of editing, publication and distribution. We want this project to go ahead come what may. If we raise more funds than are needed, they will go directly to Kara.
Book launch 2 September 2018
Kara's book is nearly here.
I hope you can make it to the launch here on Waiheke. It will be held on 30 September, 4.30-5.30 at Whittakers/Waiheke Community Art Gallery.
There will be readings and piano duets at the museum, and book signings, drinks at nibbles at the Art Gallery.
