Karl needs a new wheelchair!
Karl was born with Spina Bifida. Due to this his right leg was amputated at 17 years of age. He is a very active person and loves sports!
To be mobile he mainly uses a wheelchair. Although this helps his mobility, it is a hinderance to him participating fully in a lot of things most of us take for granted, such as going over the grass or navigating gravel paths.
Karl is also a keen para-archer and competes at both local and national level. Because archery competitons are mainly outside on a grass range he relies on others to collect his arrows and score for him which means he is missing out on a major part of the sport he enjoys so much. He is currently on track to achieving his goal of competing at the Paralympics.
He has been granted some funding through the Ministry of Health towards a powered chair, however not enough to cover the one that his Occupational Therapist and other professionals recommend: the Ogo.
The pictures and video are of Karl using a sample Ogo chair.
Karl will also be able to participate more in his stepchildrens sports, attend functions with ease and save his arm and back joints from wearing out early through pushing or using crutches.
Karl needs $8,000 by July 2018 to make this dream come true.
Any donation is very much appreciated.
All funds will be used to purchase an Ogo. Any surplus will be donated to the youth group program at Parafed Wellington.
