Trying to help my friend regain his quality of life and some of his dignity back.
Saint Johns, Auckland
I have known Karl for over 20 years and throughout our friendship he has always put everyone first regardless of what he had going on in his life. His biggest strength has always been humanity and seeing the best in people, but in his time of need he has encountered a terrifying struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Since November of 2022 he's endured personalities that refuse to care about competently doing their jobs and provide the care that they are supposed. This is currently only happening maybe once a day at best and no matter the amount of calls that have been placed his weekend service has stopped showing up regularly. When help does arrive, it is often met with hostility or hours too late, robbing him even further of his dignity while having to explain that he is incapable of caring for himself due to his mobility being an issue. The flat that he is currently in has narrow hallways and doorways rendering a wheelchair useless even if he could afford it currently. An average task such as getting to the rest room or answering the door is laborious and carries dangers such as falling and then it can take hours to regain his footing and recovery is often days in the future.
His Parents are trying to provide him a second chance by bringing him home. He would have access to more in home care and a safer environment because there are people to help call for help if its needed.
A long term close friend and a brother.
It will cover the expenses of the move from Auckland to his parents in northland, a wheelchair and paying back medical bills.
