Kat and Womble have been thrown one of lifes horrific 'curve-balls' and the road to recovery will be long and hard, so PLEASE HELP!
Nelson / Tasman
Womble (as he is more lovingly known) suffered a MASSIVE and debilitating stroke while driving along the Richmond deviation in Nelson on the morning of the 22nd May 2019. Within 45 minutes of arriving at Nelson Hospital and after emergency treatment failed to assist, he was quickly flown by the 'Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter' to Wellington Hospital, where he underwent life-saving emergency Neurosurgery. A section of Womble's skull was removed to release the pressure on his swelling brain. After some months Womble will be flown back to Wellington for further Neurosurgery to put this section of bone back into place.
After spending three days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) hooked up to machines and breathing tubes, Womble was moved to the High Dependency Neuro Unit. He is making a small amount of progress saying a few words here and there but it is still very, very early days in the very long journey of Womble's recovery, and at this stage it is hard to say what the extent of damage is and what lasting effects Womble will have.
What we do know is that this is NOT going to be a short term recovery with no movement down Womble's left side, other than his toes. Kat has been told that this WILL 'put Womble out' for many months to come.
The couple now have no income due to being self employed and running a small business here in Nelson (due to Womble having two previous strokes, minor in comparison, he is not eligible for medical insurance for this). Kat's role will now be to help Womble recover and they both need your help now!
So that Kat can be there for Womble to help him in his recovery and rehabilitation, I am asking for your help to take the pressure of this amazing young couple and family.
I've tried to put myself in their shoes over this past week and I can't even begin to imagine what they both must be going through. I don't want them to have to worry about how they are going to eat or pay the rent and bills.
This is a very serious and real matter so please donate what you can NOW, no matter how little as every little bit will count for them, and will be more than appreciated!
Kat and Womble are very good friends of mine, and are the first to be there for anyone when they need them. Now it is my turn to try and help them!
Any funds raised will assist with essential daily living costs such as rent, groceries, utility bills (power etc) and petrol for Kat to go back and forth to Nelson Hospital, and so on.
Thank You! 31 May 2019
