Raising funds for Katelyn's year 6 Grit Camp while getting fit and strong
Whangaparaoa, Auckland
Katelyn is so excited to be selected to go to Grit Camp with other year 6s at her school!
Grit Camp at Aongatete Outdoor Education Centre encourages students to push themselves physically but in a fun and safe environment. Unlike other school camps, there are only 50 spaces available each year.
Part of the selection process included a plan to raise funds herself to pay for camp costs including the purchase of any compulsory gear.
Because the camp is in May, she will need a good quality, well fitting wetsuit and thermal underwear.
For this, Katelyn has begun running training with Brad each weekend with the aim of completing a full 10km course around Orewa.
Fitting the training in around gymnastics and theatre rehearsals has been challenging, but they have begun with enthusiasm and feel confident she will be ready for 10km at the beginning May.
Please consider making a contribution towards Katelyn's Grit Camp adventure, while she also works to build up her fitness.
Brad will also be attending camp as parent help, so this run is great for him too, as he is recovering from an injury.
As her parents we are so proud of Katelyn for making her application presentation to the principal. Her drive to succeed is so amazing.
Camp costs.
Compulsory gear like wetsuit, thermals and shoes.
Done!! 18 May 2025
She did it!! A couple of weekends ago, Katelyn went out with Brad and ran her first ever 10kms around Gulf Harbour golf course, completed in 1 hr 26 minutes. Not bad for those little legs! Watch this video documenting the morning.
Thank you thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for your support. She's off to Grit Camp tomorrow, bright and early to school first at 5am, then down to Aongatete Education Centre in the Bay of Plenty.
Gosh thank you! Hope your training is going well too xx
