Kath Kelly and Peg Leyland riding Tour Aotearoa - 3000km from Cape Reinga to Bluff on mountain bikes; raising money for Nepal earthquake.
Nationwide
On 21st February we will start our ride from Cape Reinga to Bluff on Tour Aotearoa. This is a 3000km route using mountain bike trails, gravel roads and tar seal where necessary. We will be unsupported and carrying all our own gear. Peg has 3 weeks off work, so we have to finish within that time.
We are raising money for Nepal Cyclists Ride to Rescue (NCRR), a charity set up by the Nepal National MTB team and employees of Himalayan Singletrack after the earthquake in April 2015. In the immediate aftermath they provided aid in areas that were only accessible by bike, and their ongoing projects include building and furnishing schools.
You can follow our progress down the country (and arrive with high calorie treats at strategic points*) on the following link:

*only joking - we are unsupported, so only if you can also supply treats to all other Tour riders!

We have been inspired by the Nepal National Cyclists who from the time of the quake, have broadened their focus from their own racing careers to helping those whose lives have been devastated by the quake.
Their work started at the time of the quake when they were out on a training ride and rescued a mother and baby, and has continued as they have recognised the need to repair infrastructure in the affected areas.
