Kavanagh College Survive-a-Slum

$210 of $500 goal
Given by 12 generous donors in 14 days

Help us to support Caritas, St Vincent de Paul and Catholic Social Services in their work in communities across the world.

Nationwide

The Head Students and Service prefects at Kavanagh College will be staying the night in a make-shift slum outside the main office at Kavanagh on Thursday 25th September. We will be going without the basic things we so often take for granted – food, a pillow, deodorant, electronic equipment or quality clothing.

We are raising awareness and also money for Caritas, the Catholic international aid agency, and St Vincent de Paul and Catholic social services who work very closely with families in need in Dunedin giving practical advice and support in terms of food and clothing.

We know that our experience of this slum is nothing like what people who really suffer homelessness have to endure. We know that tomorrow we’ll be able to go home and have a nice meal and a hot shower. But for a short time, it does make us think about how hard it must be, and how lucky we are.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
