Help Us Save Takapuna Golf Course — A Vital Green Space Under Threat
We are a community-led group standing alongside technical experts and professionals to protect a cherished part of Auckland — the Takapuna Golf Course.
Right now, this much-loved public course is at serious risk. Auckland Council and Healthy Waters plan to transform it into a large flood storage wetland, erasing a unique recreational and ecological asset that serves thousands every year.
But there is a better way.
Takapuna Golf Course management has submitted an alternative plan to the Council, one that keeps all 18 holes of the course intact while incorporating a dry basin design that meets the same flood storage requirements. This smart, sustainable solution not only preserves the golf course but also protects dozens of mature, rare trees that would otherwise be lost.
This isn’t just about golf. It’s about preserving precious green space and standing up for a community asset that belongs to all of us. Takapuna is New Zealand’s busiest public golf course — a place where people of all ages and backgrounds come together.
