Opportunists helped themselves to vital infrastructure from the Hibiscus Men’s Shed worksite, located between the Silverdale Rugby Club and Bunnings Silverdale. Every single nut and bolt, plank of wood and widget for this building, has been purchased through grants and fundraising. Sadly firstly the sump system was stolen and less than a week later multiple tools such as circular saw etc were stolen. Luckily these items were insured.

To reduce the risk of further theft now the building is at lock-up stage, security cameras need to be installed to protect their equipment and assets through the build, and ingoing into the future. 2 local quotes have been sourced and the cost of $5,500 is sought to install cameras and sirens which are enabled to monitored remotely through mobile devices.

The Silverdale Men’s Shed will bring men together in one community space to share their skills, have a laugh, and work on practical tasks individually (personal projects) or as a group (for the shed or community). Not only will it provide an outlet for men to utilise their old school (and new school) workmanship and DIY skills, it increases peer social engagement which in turn brings better mental health, emotional support for those going through a partner bereavement, and enables sharing handy hints and skills to bring out the inner Male domestic goddess.

The Men’s Shed will be here for the likes of you, your dad, your brother, uncle, nephew or your son. Please, if you are able, donate what you can to get this significant community asset, back on track.

100% of funds raised (after crowd funding fees) will be donated direct to the Hibiscus Men’s Shed Trust. If there should be surplus due to install efficiencies, monies would be allocated to landscaping once the building is complete.
