Swimming for turtles! Help us raise money to rehabilitate endangered sea turtles at Kelly Tarlton's Marine Wildlife Trust
Auckland
Rach and I are doing the Auckland Harbour Crossing, a 3km ocean swim happening on the 12th of December (we've not tried anything this silly before!). To help motivate us to train and not require rescuing on the day, please donate to our cause - we are raising money for sea turtle rehabilitation at Kelly Tarlton's. If we're really lucky we might find a turtle on the swim to pull us along!
Sick and injured sea turtles are found washed up on New Zealand beaches every year, sometimes as a result of human-associated harm from eating plastic or encounters with boat propellers. The dedication of the Kelly Tarlton's team means that these endangered animals can be released, often after up to a year of rehabilitation. Turtle rehab is an intensive process, and can cost up to $10,000 per turtle per year. All money raised will go directly to Kelly Tarlton's Marine Wildlife Trust, and ensure these magnificent animals receive the best care possible.
Huge thanks to BlueSeventy for two discounted Sprint wetsuits to help us on our way.
Rach and I work at the New Zealand Centre for Conservation Medicine at Auckland Zoo, and provide initial emergency care and treatment for these turtles before the hard work of rehabilitation begins at Kelly's.
