Please help Kendra, Corey and their family during their recovery from a motorcycle crash
Wellington
If you don’t know Kendra and Corey you most likely have heard of them through their involvement in the community. As a young single mum she took up the reigns of President of the Featherston Rugby Club, before meeting and falling in love with Corey. They have been involved with outreach on the Kapiti Coast helping Māori and Pasifika youth.
Early in the afternoon on 12 January Kendra and Corey were involved in a serious motorcycle crash involving a truck. They were separately helicoptered to Wellington Hospital with extensive damage to their bodies. Kendra was about 5 months pregnant at the time, sadly, through trauma the baby has not survived.
Kendra and Corey have now both have undergone major surgeries. Corey has lost a leg and surgeries have managed to save his arm. Rods have been inserted into the bone fractures in Kendra’s leg. They hope it can be saved.
They are both waiting on plastic surgeons to further repair soft tissue. The surgeons have informed us both Kendra and Corey’s recovery time is looking at approximately 12 to 18 months.
Throughout everything that’s happened over the last few days Kendra, Corey and their families have done their best to remain positive, especially for their young families.
About Corey and Kendra
To say determined is an understatement. Kendra has young son and Corey 3 beautiful daughters. They are committed and amazing parents.
Corey is a painter/plaster and Kendra works in retail, though recently set up her own cleaning business to support their growing family.
Everyone has a past, but these two have chosen to take a new road and set a good example for their children. They would do anything to help anyone in need – and sure have over the years in their communities of the Wairarapa and Kapiti Coast.
If you are in a position to help, even a few dollars, this will go along way to help these amazing people on their lifelong recovery and support their children. There will be big expenses on the long road to recovery – lets set up this fund to help them on their way and to give back to them for their service to the community.

Winter update 3 June 2021
Kendra has started walking with crutches!! She continues with physio and potentially she may be down to one crutch in a month. She has started weight bearing exercises with 25-30kgs. She is doing above her expected milestones set by surgeons and orthopedic doctors.
Unfortunately she has a few surgeries yet to come as the medication that her surgeon was hoping for her to us and avoid the need of further surgery has been declined.
Corey has had metal wear removed from his arm and had further surgery minimize infection. He is doing physio and has constant orthopedic appointments. There is still hope he will regain use of his arm fully.
With the support of familu they have been sorting out their home to make it easier to cater to their needs. ACC have been supportive and helping with equipment and rails which should arrive soon.
On the personal side Kendra and Corey have been busy meeting their new nieces that have been born recently. They are looking for a daye to have a tangi for their precious son that was lost due to the accident.
They are excited for the future, their kids are in school, aiming to get back into the work force (eventually) and ofcourse planning their wedding!
