I have been accepted on the Frontrunners 12 course in Denmark!

Canterbury

I have been accepted on the Frontrunners course based in Demark. It is an International Deaf Youth Training Programme and starts in September this year. It's an opportunity I don't want to miss out on!

There I will learn more in depth about Deaf education, history, sign languages, human rights of deaf people and so much more. I also will be studying with deaf youth from all over the world! There is nothing like this for Deaf people in New Zealand.

I want to bring what I have learned back to the Deaf community in New Zealand. This will help me with my heavy involvement in the Deaf and Deaf Youth communities, such as the President of the Deaf Youth Aotearoa NZ board, secretary of Canterbury Deaf Youth, board member of Deaf Youth Oceania working group, and as Community & Events Coordinator at Deaf Society of Canterbury Inc. I hope this course will help me become a more stronger, active and more confident leader.

A little more information about Frontrunners...

"The ambition of the Frontrunners, A Deaf International education programme, is to take effort of that each individual has potentiality of paving the way towards human rights for the Deaf people: in their home and worldwide. Frontrunners will also illustrate the importance of UN (United Nations), World Federation of the Deaf (WFD, the deaf equivalent to UN) and convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). It is important for us that the participants on Frontrunners – in time – will be able to act as catalysts for a social change, because we believe in humanity and equality that belong to everyone."

Money donated from this givealittle page will go towards to help cover the cost of flights, course fees, Module 2 (where I will have to pay out of my own pocket) and other possible essentials. Every little bit helps!

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
