Raising money to provide gifts and food to women and children in safe houses over Christmas time

Christmas is a time for love, joy, family and happiness but unfortunately a lot of women and children won’t get to experience that this year due to mental and physical abuse at home.

Latest statistics show that on average, every night, 201 women and children needed a safe space to sleep, as one in three women in New Zealand will experience domestic violence and abuse, causing many of them to have to flee their homes for the safety of both them and their children.

The Kia Kaha Box has been designed to bring a little bit of that joy back with an added bit of love and happiness, with these gift boxes being distributed around safe houses in Auckland at Christmas time.

Here’s how you can get involved:

I am reaching out to find people to fill a box for me. I will provide you with a labelled box, drop this off to you and then collect once you are done. I will advise a list of things that can and can’t be added to the boxes. On top of this I will also require a payment of $5 to cover the cost of the boxes, processing fee’s etc. Anything from this payment that is left will be used to buy food, sanitary items and all other essentials for the houses.

The categories for boxes will be as below:-

- Women

- Boy/Girl 1-5 years

- Boy/Girl 6-12 years

- Boy/Girl teenager

I will be pushing for a variety of boxes so I will need to know preferences on what I will be receiving when you decide to get on board with this.

If putting together a box of gifts isn’t something you would like to do but would still like to help in some way, then please make a donation on our Give A Little page. After many conversations with the amazing people at Women’s Refuge, it seems a big thing they lack is the food to provide a Christmas meal. Any additional monies raised will help to support this, along with Christmas games, films, hats – pretty much anything to bring as much normality to their day as possible.

I recently set up the Kia Kaha Box. This is a gift box to be distributed to women's safe houses around Christmas time. The money I am raising here will be to cover some expenses of the boxes then used to buy food, games for Christmas day.
