Kia Kaha Lydia!

At 39 years young our much-loved friend, mother, sister, and wife, Lydia Pei-Pereira, needs an unfunded cancer drug to save her life.

Manawatu / Whanganui

For those of us who know and love Lydia, I know there will be no question about donating but for those who don’t, here is some of her story.

Lydia is a 39 year-old mother with three children (ages 9, 11 and 16). Those of us who know Lydia know just how big her heart is and just how much love she gives to those around her. Right now, she is literally in a fight for her life and she needs our help to give her the best chance at seeing her boys grow up.

For over eight years, Lydia has been battling a cancer known as Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST) which is when abnormal cells form in the tissues of the gastrointestinal tract. She has been through multiple surgeries, including a liver resection, as well as chemotherapy medication. Unfortunately, her body has become accustomed to the drugs. This means that the medication is no longer working and the tumors have grown.

The prognosis is not good and the only other option is a medication called Ripretinib which is extremely expensive costing a huge $6,000 per month.

Lydia is strong and proud and although she is always helping others, it does not come naturally to her to receive or ask for help. We ask that you please keep her and her family in your prayers while she continues her fight against this disease. More importantly we ask that you dig deep so that we can have this amazing person impact our lives the way she does every day for as long as possible.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this message and we appreciate all your love and support.

From her Friends and Family.

Stivarga - let's do this!!!   15 October 2020

Lele has asked me to please update you all with her words below ....

Today marks a new chapter.

Without the love and support of all our friends, families and even strangers, this wouldn’t be an option.

We are extremely grateful beyond words to be able to be in a position where we could access this UNFUNDED medication.

This new journey starts today and we will keep you all updated on how we go.

Wish us luck.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
