Kiaras battle with acute myeloid leukemia

Friday the 31st January 2025 after over a month of doctor, dentist & an a&e visits ashleigh had her family doctor on her doorstep at 7pm confirming every parents worst nightmare.
They have since spent the night in Palmerston North hospital where ashleigh's daughter kiara received her first blood transfusion & Saturday at 11am, were flown to starship hospital, not only was it Kiaras first plane ride, it was her māmās too
This afternoon it was confirmed that Kiara has acute myeloid leukemia & today (Sunday 2nd feb) Kiara will have surgery to insert a line & chemotherapy begins.
Acute myeloid leukemia is an aggressive cancer in the blood and bone marrow
Kiara is a bright bubbly 6yo from levin who loves school, her friends, siblings, and family and it's devastating to have her normality taken from her. Kiara was born premature and spent time in nicu. It was very clear she was a fighter from the moment she was born and we know she'll continue to fight until she kicks cancers butt.
Kiara is little but fierce she has a firing light burning within. her journey has only just begun
Ashleigh won't ask for help, so I'm doing it on her behalf. We know the stress of having a medically unwell child outside of hospital life and if we can help take care of some of that stress we will 🫶

An official week into kiaras battle 8 February 2025
It has been 1 whole week since kiara was officially diagnosed with AML 🥺 and going through her first round of intense chemotherapy. There have been some ups and downs this past week and it has been very traumatic for ashleigh and kiara. There have also been some good. When kiara is up to it, she has been enjoying her time in the play room and creating beautiful art 🥰. kiara is missing her family, school friends, the sun and playgrounds. We would love to extend our upmost gratitude for the love, support, donations, and best wishes to kiara and her family during this difficult time. The kindness of friends, family and strangers has been unbelievable and I know ashleigh will feel the emotions of having so much love and support ❤️
