Help Rotaractors and Rotarians of Fiji battle the climate crisis and rebuild after devastating storms.
Auckland
The week before Christmas as Tropical Cyclone Yasa was on its way out of Fiji, Rotaractor Becky Giblin and Rotarian Amerika Grewal began brainstorming ideas to help from a distance.
“Watching this unfold and not being on the ground to help was gut wrenching. I knew I had to contribute in some way. My ‘World of Rotaract’ lockdown zoom contacts came to the table saying ‘we want to help’. In less than 24 hours we had an idea, a team, and a plan and the call to action was out. We ask people to give a little where they can and join us on New Year’s Eve as over 24 hours we raise awareness about the environmental crisis and the reality of life after a tropical cyclone,” said Rotaractor Becky Giblin.
Rotarians and Rotaractors in Fiji have stepped up to assist with Covid-19 related economic woes and the recovery from the two massive storms that made landfall this year. They are providing food packs, water, Emergency Response Kits (ERKs), and assisting with rebuilding efforts. The next few months will be critical to getting the country back on its feet, helping kids get ready for school as well as making sure the damaged areas are cleaned up.
