Kids N Gigs

  • Laughter IS the Best Medicine!

It turns out gigs can be comedy too. Someone asked would any of the Kids N Gigs rangatahi like to go to see Jo Koy at Spark? None of these guys had been to a comedy show, let alone an international artist in a big venue! When a mum who picked them up commented how great it was to see them belly-laughing, big warm fuzzies all round. We get very few donations in $ (as you can see) so I do a lot of begging favours of kind people in the music industry. If you can, give a $, each bit counts and brings respite from stressful lives and inclusivity to marginalised kids. Massive gratitude from the kids for whom it makes a difference. X

We're continuing our efforts to enable at-risk youth to access live music for inclusivity and wellbeing. If you love music and understand the positive impacts of it then help us spread the word, donate if yo can, even if it's a dollar or two, every little kindness helps.

We took two young people along to Rudimental in Auckland. It was a raucous, joyous night of dancing, laughing and singalongs, made possible by a kind promoter. We talked about what it meant to be able to attend a gig that you couldn't afford a ticket to, the gratitude and appreciation is huge and genuine. It was so joyous, everybody deserves live music! Inclusivity brings wellbeing so do give if you can. It helps those who need it most X

Our young student aged 16 had the privilege of going to her first ever live-music experience recently, and it was a wonderful outcome! She saw L.A.B and Stan Walker and had a great, positive experience. We have so much gratitude to the kind benefactors who make a difference in these kid's lives!

  • Inclusivity Heals! Feedback From A Grateful Youth.

      22 March 2024

I come from a family of music lovers, my mum often tells me of the time Shihad came to her school to play and that the entry fee had been 50 cents. Seeing live music was a commodity back then because why wouldn't you want to share that with the world? Now, it's a privilege. I love music so much and rarely do I get to see the people that made it. I’m twenty now and poorer than I’ve ever been and when you’re poor you don’t really have the choice of privileges.

What Sarah’s fundraising, and now Fat Freddies Drop, has given us all is the opportunity to be a part of the human experience again. I am going to another concert this year, with my friends, the first one in 4 years because of Sarah.

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to enjoy something I love again. https://www.rnz.co.nz/audio/player?audio_id=2018871576

  • About Us...

      2 March 2024

Last year this initiative enabled many under-privileged and deserving young people with a wide variety of life challenges, to have the treat of going to concerts that poverty would normally exclude them from. From Snoop Dogg to The NZ Symphony Orchestra to Billy Bragg to 50 Cent, the impact on the kids wellbeing is tangible, encouraging social inclusion, positivity, and the wellbeing and joy that live music brings. It means a great deal and is making a difference, thank you!
