The final push! Be a part of something unique - and leave your handprint there! Or buy for as a lasting gift for a friend/loved one.

Nationwide

We are nearly there, we have space a few more handprints - get on board and help us finsih the Chapel.

Read more! At Taranaki Retreat, there will be - a sanctuary - a lovely simple wooden building - a place for prayer, meditation, reflection and counselling to happen. For anyone staying on the Retreat to have a space for time out. There will be gentle lighting, quiet music and a place to light a candle.

The Chapel will be built entirely from kind-hands gifts. A kind hand is a donation of $40. What does this mean? When this gorgeously simple building has been constructed, the back and side outside walls will be beautifully covered with stencilled hand-prints - in the colours of the rainbow. Each hand will have someone's name written on it - the name of the donor or donor's message - so that every time the Chapel is used, those gathered there will know that they are surrounded by the love of 100's of kind hands.

It's SIMPLE! Choose to donate $40 per handprint, and in the donor comments mention your preferred colour and the name you'd like written in the handprint.

About us

Taranaki Retreat is an NZ Registered Charitable community organisation, here to provide hope and support when times are tough. The service we provide is at no cost to the individual, and doesn’t require a specific set of circumstances, a diagnosis, or a GP or other organisation to refer. We know that all of us, at one time or another, need a little extra support and some time out from the pressures of our environment – and a good listening ear.

Finding the right kind of support

We have excellent friendships and connections with many supportive services. It may be that doing careful research as to what’s out there is the best way we can help. Once we know a bit about a person's situation, we do all we can to find what may be available in the area, even if it isn't us.

Someone to talk to

Sometimes, when really intense stuff is happening for us, or someone we care about (for example, suicidal thoughts), it is unsettling and even frightening. We know how much it can help to talk to someone who will understand. We are available to chat over the phone or even by email if that's easier.

Residential Stays

We support people looking for some time-out and “Space to Breathe”. We offer short stays usually of 5 nights.

Building Mates

We offer a programme offering the chance to work with our qualified builder who also has her own mental health journey. Through doing, usually making things out of wood, safety and wellness are explored in a number of workshops.

Workshops

We offer regular workshops at the Retreat covering topics such as Anxiety, Setting Boundaries and Grief. Relaxation and yoga are also offered for those keen to explore such areas.

So - in summary, we're about :

- Finding services local to a person who can help

- Someone to talk to, by phone/email, about what's going on

- ‘Getting away from it all’ for a stay

- Attending on of our workshops

Our Chapel is almost finished and ready to go. The wonderful guys from A1 are going to take do the finishing touches for us. Coupled with a fantastic offer of paint from Dulux, we can't wait for the day we start painting everyone's kind hands on there. We still have space for more hands (and room for more donations :) - once we're full it will be too late to buy a hand so spread the word and spread the love, NOW :)
