Please help us to help parents in the Children's Ward and Neonatal Unit at Palmerston North Hospital who are supporting their precious, sick child.
Parents like Alexandra and Mike in our video. Their beautiful son Harrison was born at 28 weeks and 4 days and weighed just over 1kg (2lb 9oz). 'We spent nine weeks in the Neonatal Unit at Palmerston North Hospital. The first five weeks were spent in the Intensive Care Unit where our little boy was given support to breath, feed and grow. We spent every day and evening sitting next to his incubator. Needless to say we were both pretty stretched emotionally and physically. The baking from Kind Hearts was our treat every night while we sat cuddling our baby. The small acts of generosity and kindness made the journey with our small baby so much more bearable.'
In October 2014 we started our initiative co-ordinating donations of home baking for parents in the Children's Ward. We have provided this, made by kind hearts in our community, every day since we started. This has grown to include other food items so that parents can have a snack or light meal any time of the day or night. We also provide toiletries, current magazines, a library and special treats on occasions such as Mothers Day and Christmas.
We deliver every day and feedback from parents overwhelmingly reinforces how much these donations make a difference. 'I recently spent three days in the Children's Ward with my four year old son who had a partial lung collapse. It was a quick admission, and my partner was in Australia at the time, which meant I was unprepared. It was wonderful to have the Kind Hearts provisions - shower gel, baking, a meal and something to read. Beyond appreciation for making a tough time easier. My sincere and heartfelt thanks.' Helen
In October 2015 we extended our initiative to include parents in the Neonatal Unit.
This initiative touches so many lives. it give comfort, nourishment and practical support, along with the heart warming knowledge that strangers care enough to make life a little easier for them.
With your help we can sustain what we have begun.
With your help we can do so much more. We can increase the range of items we provide, especially for long term and frequent admissions. We can extend our initiative further in our hospital.
Your help will make a BIG difference.
Thank you.
