The reports of trenches being overun with mice is terrible. Is it possible to send these very effective and economical mouse traps or source them closer to Ukraine? https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/business-farming-industry/farming-forestry/livestock-health-management/pest-traps/listing/4523858838?bof=XwpVrtzQ I am willing to make another donation if it speeds it along.

Hi Tenby,
Sorry my use of computers is very limited so I don't do any of those things, only e mails. I shall start collecting items now, just let me know where you want them sent to, how packaged, and I shall get on with it.
Gillian.
Tenby
They are cell phone messaging platforms. That’s okay. What’s your email?
Gillian asks
Hi Tenby, I have made my first cash contribution but also want to know if I can do something practical eg with winter coming on, could I send some as new, good quality NZ warm gear, such as gloves, scarves, sox and beanies? I am prepared to go begging for such items from manufacturers, but don't want to start this project unless it is needed.
Best wishes for a successful outcome, Gillian.
Tenby
Hun Gillian - this amazing of you, all of it! Thank you. And yes - absolutely we need winter weight clotted for the refugees. If you can do this it’ll be very well received. Can we move this to WhatsApp or signal? What is your cell number?

What does "DP" mean in your answer to Jack please?
Tenby
Distribution Point (warehouses that collect,
collate, allocate and distribute humanitarian aid)
Jack asks
If someone was wanting to volunteer without the experience you would prefer and is more than anything comfortable in the kind of situations you have called for, how would they go about starting the process?
Tenby
Hi Jack - yes absolutely. There are a number of very good DP’s who accept inwards HUMAID, and they are looking for people to assist with that. You don’t need to be in Ukraine to do that and there are also a number of good ones in western Ukraine, close to the Polish border.

Further to Tony's message above, I have just emailed the Minister for Community and Voluntary Sector, Hon Priyanka Radakrishnan, p.radhakrishnan@ministers.govt.nz, to suggest she looks at expediting Charitable Status for NZ Charities operating in Ukraine. Usually the process for gaining charitable status for NZ charities operating overseas is much more involved than for those that spend their funds within NZ. The process for the latter is quite straightforward, so it would be a good easy way for the NZ Government to support Ukraine by extending the easy process that applies to NZ-focussed NZ charities to Ukraine-focussed NZ charities like yours. Good luck Jeremy

Hi Jeremy - thanks for the heads-up on this and your proactivity. I have written to numerous MP’s and have had very little response. Those who have responded, while very supportive, don’t see any govt support for Kiwi KARE. Great to see the step-up in military support via NZ Army. Thanks for all your support! Regards Tenby
Tony asks
Hi Tenby, The Christchurch "Press" ran a story in this mornings issue(Saturday 20th), have just checked into your website, impressive efforts by you and your cobber's. Have just received my Tax Rebate from IRD for 2021/22 charitable donations and wish to re-cycle this back into more donations. Are you a registered Charitable Trust ?, as this makes a difference, in stretching out my limited funds even further.
Regards,
Tony Wilkinson
Tenby
Hi Tony - firstly, thanks so much for all your support, it’s greatly appreciated.
Kiwi KARE is not a registered charitable trust. My wife Sharon Hunter and I have funded the bulk of costs to date and my original intention was to focus solely on corporate funding for both operating costs and HUMAID purchases. When I mooted the idea publicly, via social media, I was overwhelmed with advice to set up a Give-a-Little page. As you know, this is working well and we are underway with establishing a full operation for one year, possibly two.
I’m happy to look at establishing kiwi KARE as a registered charity but haven’t had time to get legal advice on it at this stage.
