The song of the kokako was once heard on Maungatautari, but with the arrival of the mammalian pests their numbers have dwindled throughout New Zealand. Maungatautari is a unique environment where there is a pest-proof fence erected and most mammalian pests and predators are eradicated

About us

Providing a safe environment for flora and fauna to live and grow in. We have 4 enclosures which have a variety of rejuvenating flora, the undergrowth is growing hugely without the disturbance of mammalian pests. We have a unique education programme which allows students to experience a pest-free environment.

What a wonderful cause you are supporting. Reintroducing the kokako to Maungatautari is a very special project. We recently saw a kokako at Pukaha Mt Bruce in the Wairarapa and they are truly magical birds.
